The Jpegcrop Windows Application was initially developed to provide a convenient interactive user interface for the new jpegtran -crop feature. It has now developed to a nearly complete user interface replacement for jpegtran, and furthermore for demonstration of the new djpeg and jpegtran -scale features.

PNGOUT

PNGOUT is a tool which can optimize “PNG” files created by other programs. It can be run from the Windows Run dialog box or at the command prompt. PNGOUT can produce even smaller files than pngcrush -brute or optipng -o7. The purpose of PNGOUT is to optimize files created by other image tools. It is not designed to duplicate their functionality.

Radical Image Optimization Tool

RIOT is a free image optimizer that will let you to visually adjust compression parameters while keeping minimum filesize. Trimage is a cross-platform GUI and command-line interface to optimize image files via optipng, pngcrush, advpng and jpegoptim, depending on the filetype (currently, PNG and JPG files are supported). All image files are losslessy compressed on the highest available compression levels. Trimage gives you various input functions to fit your own workflow.

DYNAMIC DRIVE Image Optimizer

A great online tool to optimize your images online by Dynamic Drive. Image Optimizer lets you easily optimize your gifs, animated gifs, jpgs, and pngs, so they load as fast as possible on your site. Furthermore, you can easily convert from one image type to another. Remember, here there is a limit- you can only compress a image which should be already less than 300KB.

TWEAKPNG

TweakPNG is a low-level utility for examining and modifying PNG image files. The current version requires Windows 2000 or higher (XP, Vista, etc.), though it is possible to build a copy that runs on Windows 95/98/ME. In order to use it, you will need to be at least somewhat familiar with the internal format of PNG files.

I got a the first call on my phone and it was showing “Incoming call from Unknown“, I was like ‘Huh who is this unknown person’. I answered the call and it was one of my friend. I was so surprised how I didn’t get his number on my screen. After the call I looked into my contact list and his number was already saved.

I was surprised how this happened, tried almost every possible setting I knew, but it was just not able to show me contact name on incoming calls. Then I searched it on google for a suitable solution and got many answers, which advised me to-

• Restore my phone to factory settings,
• Format it through boot,
• Check it with Samsung care center,
• Save contacts in different formats ( adding country code or may be 0),
• Restore my contacts list,
• and some were suggesting to download a app for it.

And believe me none of the above answers suited me. I tried every thing except downloading a app for it. Come-on this a basic functionality of a phone man!! If a smartphone cannot do this much, is it worthy to even call it a phone?

Finally I thought of going to my carrier provider (Airtel). And after explaining it to 5 people, I really got someone who said “I know the solution to it”. I was like “Thank God somebody in this world…”

That guy did few settings on his system, and then asked me to check it again. I was happy, it was working like butter.

So to tell you this problem of “All incoming calls showing up Unknown with no number” is related to “Calling Line Identification” which we can also call “Caller ID” in simple words. Many phones have options in under their setting menu to show Caller ID numbers or not, like in my knowledge iPhone and blackberry have this option. But for other you can simply ask your service provider (airtel, vodafone, mtnl, bsnl, reliance, idea or any other) to activate Caller ID on your number.

Also, the rank is based on three month data and takes a long time to reflect changes in content that may happen after the domain has been sold.

You may be knowing all that is written above about ‘Alexa’, may be than that. Alexa provides web traffic stats of almost every website in the world which is three months old or more. As described above you can get an approximate traffic stats of any website. So i was curious to know what is alexa’s traffic stats, I searched and you know what i found?

Alexa does not share their own traffic stats.

And if i look at the stats of any other website, for instance lets say – google.com. Its very much available.

What does that indicate? Is alexa not a 3 months old website? No, may be they dont want to reveal their stats, sources of traffic and other information. I am very surprised to see that a website which reveals traffic stats detail of any other website in the world, is hiding their own stats.

Is your laptop running Slow?

One of my friend yesterday asked me

While working on Laptops, I guess the most irritating thing will be your laptop working slow like a turtle. Process delay, loading pokey, getting stuck, time lags, these are most of the instances that pisses me off. But what to do?
Now please dont say “Reinstall you windows/linux/or any other OS.” or “Upgrade your harddisk” or may be “Upgrade your RAM”, these things even my laptop can speak out, so whats different you are suggesting.

I started thinking about what I personally do to make my laptop work fast. Then I told him below points one by one-

1. Start with a disk cleanup.

There are several ways to access this, but one is to click on the Start Program -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup. This feature will allow you to delete temporary Internet Files, Offline Files, the recycling bin, and other types of unnecessary files.

2. Clean Startup programs.

Go to Start -> Click Run and type “msconfig” in the prompt window. Click on Startup tab and look at all that junk that loads when you start your laptop. Do you really need “Adobe Reader Speed Launch” or may be “Googleupdater”? Probably not. Turn off anything else that looks useless, but be careful not to disable your anti-virus and important system components.

3. Run a full anti-virus and anti-spyware scan

I would recommend using NOD 32, AVG Antivirus. Keep in mind that you have not installed two antivirus, they will create problem for you.

4. Clean up the registry

CCleaner or RegistryFix are free and worth a lot when we talk about work. It will also remove unused files from your system – allowing Windows to run faster and giving you more hard disk space.

5. Delete Temporary Files.

Go to Start -> Click Run and type “%temp%” in the prompt window. Select all files and delete. This will delete all your system temporary files. Dont worry its not gonna effect your lapotop anyhow.

6. Do Disk Defragmentation.

You can access this the same way as a disk cleanup, but select disk defragmenter instead. You can also schedule Disk DeFragmentation process as it will take some time depending upon the work to be done.

7. Check your power management.

Go to Control Panel -> Click Power management -> Select the option for “Maximum or Best Performance”. This can be done when you are plugged in directly and not using your laptop on battery. While on battery Select the option for “Power Saver”.

8. Remove unwanted Programs

Go to Control Panel -> Click Add or Remove programs. Remove programs that you know you are not using. This can be a little tricky if one program is dependent on some other. So please check that no program is depended on the program you want to remove.

9. Avoid Animations.

If you have low RAM in laptop, its better to avoid animations in Windows Vista and Windows 7. Go to Control Panel -> System and Maintenance -> Performance Information and Tools -> Advanced Tools. Then select Adjust the Appearance and Performance of Windows. The Performance options window will prompt, uncheck Animate Windows when Maximazing and Minimizing. You can look at other options as well.

10. Use Crucial

Its a program that can see the memory in your computer and give you a better recommendation of what you need. They will look into your laptop’s technical specs.

Below mentioned are the ways by which you can save power/electricity consumed by your PC/laptop. So here we go -

1. Use Your PC Power Plan carefully

Whatever operating system you are using, it will enable you to choose best power plan of your choice. So while choosing a power plan please take care that when your PC/Laptop is plugged in your power plan should be saving the energy. What we mean is, if you look in the picture below; you should not keep the values to their maximum when your laptop is plugged in.

2. Adjust brightness and contrast monitor

As shown in the above image, try not to keep your PC/Laptop at the highest brightness even when they are plugged in. You can see the best even if you keep it two points down from the maximum.

3. Turn Off Hard disks

Even when you are not doing anything on our PC/Laptop, hard disk is being used and processed by various background processes to read data.
