Remove any website from Google Search
You must be aware that I have recently moved this blog from www.harshajmera.com/blog to www.techonzo.com and I was really worried about indexing in search engines and related issues. And finally got a clear-cut solution to it. I was so happy with that, but yesterday I was searching few things on Google and suddenly saw my old url ‘www.harshajmera.com/blog/blabla‘; I was like WTH it’s still there? And I started to find a solution to remove links from Google Search.
And there I got a great thing I want to share with you people. I founded how anybody can remove any damn website from Google Search. Yeah! you heard that right. All you need is a Google Webmaster Tool account and a valid site integrated with it. I am not sure whether this technique is known to Google or not? But my efforts are to make them aware about this thing.
Here is how James Breckenridge did this
This is James Breckenridge’s first article on his blog and I am sure it will create a huge noise at Google workplace.
Disclaimer: If you are going to test this please make sure you have permission from the site owner, otherwise although it is a loophole I am pretty sure it is illegal.
The process is actually very simple and just requires some minor modifications to URL mentioned below, followed by a form submission. Enter the following URL (with modifications):
https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals-request?hl=en&siteUrl=http://{YOUR_URL}/&urlt={URL_TO_BLOCK}
Replace in the URL above:
- {YOUR_URL} = A URL you control within Webmaster Tools
- {URL_TO_BLOCK} = The URL of the site you want to block:
- You can request removal of the following:
- Site – Provide top level domain (E.g. http://www.someurl.com/)
- Section – Provide URL of the folder (E.g. http://www.someurl.com/somefolder/)
- Page – Provide URL of the page (E.g. http://www.someurl.com/somefolder/somepage.html)
If you request the modified URL in your browser (make sure you are logged in to your Google account) you should see:
I didn’t actually remove the News Of The World by the way, News International have done quite a good job of that themselves. If you do actually click the Submit Request button, you should see the following:
It then gets inserted as a Pending request in the site owners Webmaster Tools account. If the request is not cancelled it usually leads to the removal of the site from Google’s index which is why I think this is probably the biggest vulnerability in Google today and why I am highlighting it here.
I think this is a great share from James, but I finally didn’t removed my URL because suddenly I realized that I have anyways redirected it to my new URL, so I am happy with that again.
But if anyone of you can forward this loophole to Google, it will be great to make it more reliable.
